13 November 2009 Alice Holt forest is to be included in the South Downs National Park, the UK's ninth National Park. The order confirming the park was signed yesterday (12 November) by Environment Secretary Hilary Benn. The new 632 square mile protected area, home to an estimated 120,000 people, will stretch from Beachy Head in East Sussex to the edge of Winchester in Hampshire, and will include the Alice Holt site in East Hampshire as well as Green Ridge in Brighton. The ECN Alice Holt site is managed by Forest Research on behalf of the Forestry Commission. More information about the ECN work at Alice Holt can be found on the Forest Research website.
