When the ECN long-term monitoring programme firmly underway, this second issue of ECN News begins a series of articles on each of the ECN sites, provided by their Site Managers. We also include the first of a series on similar national networks and monitoring programs operating in other countries. There was a good response to the first newsletter - after sending it to some 500 individuals on our mailing list, we received many additional requests both from within the UK and from other countries (Norway, Italy, The Netherlands, Bangladesh, China, India and Venezuela). Staff at the ECN Central Coordination Unit have supplied articles for a number of other publications in the last six months, which has also prompted interest in ECN. January 1993 saw most sites beginning of their data capture programmes in earnest, according to the agreed protocols. More sites have joined since the last issue, and there have been some staff developments - read on!
