Call for expressions of interest: Mathematical Challenges in the Forecasting of Environmental Change

Announcement of a workshop exploring how mathematics can contribute to meeting the challenges within the UK's Living with Environmental Change (LWEC) programme.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) wishes to explore how UK expertise in the mathematical sciences can contribute to the challenges within Living with Environmental Change (LWEC). The effects of environmental change are wide ranging and this is reflected in the scope of LWEC.

A scoping workshop will be held later this  year, the aim of which is to identify and prioritise the opportunities where mathematical sciences research could bring new insights and add significant benefits to the forecasting, mitigation and adaptation to environmental change and establish the shape of a future funding activity.

Who should attend?

  • Researchers from across the breadth of the mathematical sciences
  • Researchers working within the LWEC area
  • Stakeholders (e.g. Government, Public Sector, regulatory or other) with an understanding of the issues and challenges surrounding Living with Environmental Change for which the research base might provide solutions
  • End users with an understanding of how the basic research can be exploited to deliver outcomes.

Places at the workshop are limited and to attend, you must first submit an Expression of Interest. The deadline for submitting completed Expressions of Interest forms is 12.00pm on 2nd September 2013.

To register and for more information please see the EPSRC website.
