Rainfall is one the main drivers of soil erosion. The erosive force of rainfall is expressed as rainfall erosivity. Now a team of researchers led by Panos Panagos of the European Commission Joint Research Centre has used data from across Europe to calculate and map rainfall erosivity. The team acquired data from 1541 precipitation stations in all European Union (EU) Member States and Switzerland, with temporal resolutions of 5 to 60 min. Both ECN and British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) contributed data from the UK to the assessment.
