'Beyond 2010' conference report
Report of the conference Beyond 2010: strategies for understanding and responding to long-term trends in UK biodiversity, London, November 2010
15 years of monitoring on Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon
Highlights results from monitoring and research undertaken over the first 15 years at the Environmental Change Network site on Snowdon
A comparison of ecosystem services delivered by 11 long-term monitoring sites in the UK environmental change network
This paper describes ECN's first assessment of ecosystem services delivered by 11 of the terrestrial sites in the network. It is based on the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. The study demonstrates the challenges and limitations involved in attempting holistic assessments of ecosystem services at the site and inter-site level and highlights the importance of both local expert knowledge and consistent scientific measurement in contributing to the process.
Climate change impacts: Evidence from ECN sites
This publication highlights some of the findings from ECN monitoring and research which provide evidence of the sensitivity of natural ecosystems in the UK to variability and change in climate
Hydrochloric acid: An overlooked driver of environmental change
This paper by Dr Chris Evans and colleagues was stimulated originally by the detection of unexpected changes in soil pH in Moor House ECN data.
Loch Leven: 40 years of scientific research
Special issue dedicated to research and monitoring at Loch Leven in Scotland
Moor House Memories - a Social History of a Nature Reserve
A collection of memories and anecdotes from people involved with Moor House National Nature Reserve. Compiled by John Adamson.
Soil dynamics under an oak forest at Alice Holt
This paper presents short and long-term changes in soil carbon, nitrogen and acidity beneath a 70 year old oak plot in southern England and explains increases in carbon and nitrogen stocks and changes in pH.
Targeted Monitoring of Air Pollution and Climate Change Impacts on Biodiversity
Final report on a proposed 'targeted monitoring' network.
The Environmental Change Network at Alice Holt Research Forest
This Research Note reviews data collected at the Alice Holt site over 14 years of operation from 1992–2006.
The UK Environmental Change Network: Emerging trends in the composition of plant and animal communities and the physical environment
The first major review of trends in terrestrial ecology at twelve key sites within the UK Environmental Change Network between 1993 and 2007, published in Biological Conservation
Three representative UK moorland soils show differences in decadal release of dissolved organic carbon in response to environmental change
This paper by staff at the James Hutton Institute and the NERC Centre for Ecology & Hydrology concerns dissolved organic carbon measurements from 3 ECN moorland sites, Glensaugh, Moor House-Upper Teesdale and Sourhope.
