The ECN land use protocol (LU)

Protocol file

Site types that use this protocol

In long-term monitoring studies, changes in land management can confound trends in measurements resulting from changes in extraneous factors such as climate and pollutants.  Management should therefore be consistent from year to year, at least at the ECN Sampling Site, and ideally be 'typical' of the management of similar ecosystems for the geographical area in which the ECN site lies.

Records of management activities at the site are made.

Our field activities

Now that autumn has arrived the ECN fieldwork calendar begins to quieten down. We cease monitoring most terrestrial invertebrates apart from spiders. In rivers and lakes we make the last freshwater invertebrate survey of the year.
