Terrestrial

In long-term monitoring studies, changes in land management can confound trends in measurements resulting from changes in extraneous factors such as climate and pollutants.  Management should therefore be consistent from year to year, at least at the ECN Sampling Site, and ideally be 'typical' of the management of similar ecosystems for the geographical area in which the ECN site lies.

Records of management activities at the site are made.

Our field activities

JUNE

June is one of ECN's busiest months. In addition to the many other measurements, we start summer bat monitoring at terrestrial sites, and survey for spittle bugs. At freshwater sites, routine water sampling continues and we also sample diatoms this month.
