Terrestrial

In long-term monitoring studies, changes in land management can confound trends in measurements resulting from changes in extraneous factors such as climate and pollutants.  Management should therefore be consistent from year to year, at least at the ECN Sampling Site, and ideally be 'typical' of the management of similar ecosystems for the geographical area in which the ECN site lies.

Records of management activities at the site are made.

Our field activities

SEPTEMBER

This is the last of the busy months in terms of field work at terrestrial sites as the season for monitoring butterflies, frogs, grazing animals and bats draws to an end. In rivers and lakes we sample diatoms for the third time in the year. The usual year-round measurements are also made.
